Join us for a Community Walk & Camp out in the Peak District!
Come and discover a beautiful part of the Peak District with others from The Visionaries’ community.
Date & Time: 1:00pm Saturday 19th October*
*(with option to stay overnight, either camping or in local hostel depending on budgets into Sunday 20th October)
Location: Meet at Edale Station. Station Road, Edale, Derbyshire, S33 7ZN
The Plan
Saturday October 19th
➤ Meet at Edale station (with the option to leave our overnight gear locked in The Visionaries’ van for those choosing to camp or sleep overnight so you don’t have to carry heavy bags around!)
➤ Walk a circular route for 3-4 hours (exact route tbc based on weather on the day. Options include walking a circular lap around Kinder Scout, Mam Tor, Grindslow Knoll and part of the Pennine Way.)
➤ End the walk at The Old Nag’s Head pub (there’s of course the option to head straight to the campsite / youth hostel and cook dinner there for a cheaper option – let us know your preference on sign up and we’ll get a WhatsApp group organised to coordinate a plan)
Accommodation Options (please book these yourself based on your preference!)
➤ Camping: For those looking to camp out, book a place at Fieldhead campsite (UPDATE: Fieldhead is now fully booked, but we have two spare tent pitch places booekd so get in touch if you want one. Otherwise, we suggest booking just down the road at Newfold Farm)
➤ Hostel: For those wanting to be indoors, the cheapest option is the YHA Edale Activity Centre (Note: the YHA is about a 50 minute walk from where we will end the walk. We may be able to support with shuttles depending on how many drivers there are!)
Sunday October 20th
➤ Organic plans based on the weather and how many of us chose to stay overnight!
We’ll share a wet weather plan too, in case it looks like heavy rain!
Note: The walk is being guided by our Director, Max Girardeau.
What to bring?
We advise you wear good walking boots as the footpaths will be uneven and potentially quite muddy! Walking in wellies is not advised for this length of hike.
There are some essential items and other items we recommend you bring, depending on how mcuh space you have, how you’re travelling and how much you are willing to carry!
Essential
- Water bottle
- Lunch and snacks for the walk
- Enough warm layers
- Waterproof jacket
- Waterproof trousers
Recommended
- Spare shoes for after the walk (if it’s not too much to carry)
- Spare warm socks
- Suncream (you never know!)
If you are staying overnight then you’ll need to bring what you need to camp out (unless you are looking to borrow this – we can try and help roganise this, just state this on the form and we will be in touch)
Registration
The event is free to attend. Please RSVP over on Ticket Tailor and donate if you can (to help cover our admin and planning costs to run these for the community!)
If you plan to stay overnight this is at your own cost and you must book this yourself. Although get in touch with Max if you are keen to discuss anything – max@thevisionaries.org.uk.
